Act And Acre Review
Helen Reavey, celebrity hairstylist and Founder of Act and Acre has created a revolutionary and innovative haircare brand that has now become a cult favorite amongst so many people myself included. Act and Acre is the first Cold Processed hair wellness brand that focuses on your scalp first. Today I will be doing an in depth review of all the products I’ve used thus far from Act and Acre, so get ready this post os going to be a long one.
Manufacturing Process
Cold Processed Method
Before talking about the amazing products itself, first lets dig into what makes these products so amazing in the first place. Act and Acre use a revolutionary manufacturing method for creating their hair products that is not only good for our hair but also good for the earth. This method is called the Cold Processed Method that uses ice cold water, and 1,200 pound of pressure to combine their plant-based ingredients. The internal temperature of the hyperbaric chamber never exceeds 68 degrees F. This ensures that the original active ingredients remain fresh, highly potent, and are free from harmful sulfates, silicones, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum and synthetic fragrances, This also ensures that it s vegan, gluten free, pregnancy safe, color safe and safe for chemically treated hair.
Heat Processed MEthod
The conventional heat processing method is a manufacturing method that many haircare brands used because of how cost effective it is. It can take up to 5 hours to achieve a thorough mixture at temperatures exceeding 300 degrees F. This sustained exposure to high heat not only has a negative environmental impact but also significantly degrades the efficacy of the natural active ingredients and introduce harmful ingredients such as sulfates.
Sustainability
Other than the products themselves one of my most favorite aspect of Act and Acre is their commitment to sustainability. Their Cold Process manufacturing menthol uses a hyperbaric chamber which consumes 90% less energy than the traditional heat process. All of their packaging is fully recyclable and their products itself is environmentally friendly and held to the EU’s clean standard. All of their partners also subscribe to sustainable business practices and equal wages.
Product Review
Scalp Detox Treatment
To start off with, the # 1 best selling product of theirs is the award winning scalp detox treatment. This treatment is a pre cleanse oil that gently breaks down sebum, removes buildup and restores balance to the scalp. This is geared towards those who have normal to dry scalps but can be used on all hair textures. The scalp detox treatment helps to get rid of build up and combats dryness and thinning of the hair. I love to pair this with the scalp gua sha tool. This is an incredibly soothing scalp product and is now a staple in my hair routine.
Hair Cleanse
Following the scalp detox treatment is the hair cleanse. This shampoo is unlike any shampoo I have ever used. It is a plant-derived formula that gently removes residue while balancing the natural moisture of the scalp. It is a great shampoo for all scalp types and hair textures. The hair cleanse focuses on treating lack of volume and dryness of the hair. I did not like this shampoo at first because I felt like it did not really clean my scalp and hair. After about a month of using this I realized how wrong I was. In the past I have been so used to shampoos that would make my hair feel so dry and squeaky clean almost like rubber. This shampoo cleans my hair but does not strip my hair of its natural oils which helps me to use less products.
Moisture Balancing Conditoner
We cannot talk about the shampoo without it’s it’s amazing pair the moisture balancing conditioner. This conditioner is lightweight, made of plant oils that instantly delivers weightless, lasting hydration to the hair. This is for any scalp type and perfect for straight, wavy, and curly hair. If you have coily hair, this may not be the best conditioner to use. The moisture balancing conditioner combats dryness, frizz, and damage. This conditioner has amazing slip for my hair. I love to use this in the shower to detangle. Y hair and leave it in for about 10 minutes while I do the rest of my shower routine.
Restorative CONDITIONING Hair Mask
Equally as amazing as the moisture balancing conditioner is the restorative conditioning hair mask. This hair mask is packed with proteins, vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants that delivers lasting moisture to dry, damaged hair. You end up with silky soft and soothed strands in an instant. This mask is great for normal, dry or oil scalp types and is great for any hour texture including coils because of how thick and hydrating this mask is. The restorative conditioning hair mask combats dryness, frizz, and damaged hair. This mask has made my hair feel like silk after each and every use. It is hands down my most favorite hair mask I have ever used.
Stem Cell Serum
The stem cell serum restores the scalp ecosystem from the damaging effects of the sun and pollution. This serum helps to support the reduction of hair thinning, dryness, and fallout. It uses apple stem cells, which is a completely vegan formula free of sulfates and parabens to help combat the natural aging process of our scalps. This product is great for all scalp types and hair textures. The stem cell serum focuses on treating hair loss/thinning, soothing an irritated scalp and increasing your hair volume. This serum felt great on my scalp and was indeed very soothing but I chose to stop using this simply because I had no thinning problems and didn’t see much of a difference.
Plant Based Hair Capsules
A big part of growing your hair is to nourish your body from the inside out. And the plant based hair capsules are perhaps the only hair vitamins that actually work. These capsules are completely vegan, gluten free, and promote hair growth, resilience, and visible strand thickness. It is great for all scalp types and hair textures. These capsules combat hair loss/ thinning and damaged hair. The main ingredients are bamboo and horsetail extracts which are rich sources of silica which helps to add shine and volume to your hair. Vitamin C and Amino Acids synergistically support collagen production to fortify the hair. Lastly biotin promotes a healthy and consistent growth cycle. Theses are just a few of the amazing vitamins and nutrients that helps to fill the gaps in our diet for hair wellness. My hair has grown so much and has gotten a lot thicker at the root over the course of two months use.

This is probably my most favorite hair accessory that I have ever used. The towel helps to eliminate breakage when your hair is wet, reduces less frizz so that means fewer knots, and no out of control strands. It is ultralight, soft and super absorbent. It has helped me to significantly cut my styling time.
Scalp Gua sha Tool
This tool is an amazing individually hand-cut jade stone. Its use helps ingredients to penetrate more deeply and efficiently into the scalp, while promoting microcirculation and relaxation. This tool also helps to increase blood flow to your scalp thereby increasing the nutrients that your scalp receives. I love to use this during my prepoo step with the scalp detox oil treatment.
My results
Using this brand has completely transformed my hair. The scalp detox oil treatment soothed scalp issues that I didn’t realize I had. My scalp is a lot less itchy after a few days of no washing and I no longer have any product buildup. My hair is so much softer and shinier thanks to the moisture balancing conditioner and the restorative hair mask. I’ve seen the biggest difference in a short period of time with the plant based hair capsules. My scalp got visibly thicker within a month and shinier without any added products because I was finally nourishing my body.
